For Immediate Release
CALGARY, Alberta Jan. 3, 2012 - The installation of the SAGD produced water treatment system at Southern Pacific's STP-McKay project is currently under way in Northern Alberta. The system, supplied by Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, consists of deoiling equipment and an evaporation system that will treat produced water from the 12,000 bbl/d operation.
The evaporation system is supplied as modularized units to facilitate site installation. The evaporator and crystallizer vessels were shipped entirely built up and have been placed on site in the fourth quarter of 2011. Pumps, heat exchangers, and other ancillary equipment are also modularized as "plug and play" components that comprise nearly the entire system. The modules also integrate platforms, walkways, and ladders as well as serving as pipe racks. Other equipment, if not modularized, are skidded or built up for easier integration during construction.
The produced water system is considered a critical path item for the overall plant construction due its size, complexity and importance to the facility operations. The modularized design provides a much simpler method of installation and overall constructability of the system in order to meet an aggressive twelve month schedule. It is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2012.
Southern Pacific Resource Corp. is engaged in the exploration, development, and production of in-situ thermal heavy oil and bitumen production in the Athabasca oil sands of Alberta and in Senlac, Saskatchewan.
